Women considering a mommy makeover often start their online research with a certain phrase: “best mommy makeover surgeon.” At my Fort Worth practice, I always tell patients the importance of finding a surgeon who’s board-certified, experienced, and honest. But what does the title of “best” actually mean? And how can you find who is the “best” in your area?
The idea of a “best surgeon” can mean different things to different people. But here are a few tips for telling if a plastic surgeon has what it takes to deliver the results you deserve.
Excellent Credentials
When you start your plastic surgery research, you should immediately investigate a surgeon’s professional history. You want a doctor who is trusted in their medical community. When scrolling through surgeon résumés, look for credentials like:
- Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)
- Completion of an aesthetic surgery fellowship
- Awards and honors presented by other medical organizations
Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon is always important for guaranteeing safe, high-quality results. In order to reassure my own patients, I list my CV and discuss my background in the Fort Worth community.
Experience in Your Procedures
Mommy makeovers include various procedures, so it’s important to choose a surgeon who has experience in the ones you’re considering. If the plastic surgeon you’re considering specializes in facial plastic surgery, for example, she or he may rarely perform tummy tuck surgery or cosmetic breast surgery. Ask surgeons during your consultations how many times a week they perform breast augmentation or a tummy tuck to get a sense of their experience. It’s also important that the surgeon is comfortable performing a longer procedure such as a mommy makeover, which can last 4 hours or more.
It’s always a good idea to browse before-and-after photos and see real patient results. For examples of what a mommy makeover can create, browse through our own mommy makeover gallery.
A Personal Approach
When it comes down to it, the “best” surgeon is one who makes you feel supported, understood, and cared for throughout the process. You want to find someone with an excellent bedside manner that complements their surgical skills.
In my own practice, I always take as much time as needed during consultations. This helps me form long-lasting relationships with all my patients—in fact, we call them #HappyCampers! It’s important to create an environment of trust and warmth at any plastic surgery office. Every patient’s process is a personal journey, and you want a surgeon who can work alongside you as a team.
With these tips in mind, you should be able to find well-qualified plastic surgeons all across the country. If you’re curious about mommy makeovers or have any other questions, please request a consultation using the online form or call our practice at (817) 228-4315.
