4. After a thorough patient history and physical exam, the implant selection process is reviewed with the patient. This relies on detailed measurements of unique traits for each person.  Every patient will have a different elastic tone of the skin, breast thickness, and shape to the chest wall.  It is not just about matching your height and weight to other patients and then picking the same implants as detailed in other case examples, as is commonly done with internet searches and goal photo examples.  Using specific exam measurements and scientifically proven methods to match implants to different body types, I will review your photos and use VECTRA 3D imaging to create images of your body with simulations of appropriate implant sizes and shapes that match your specific goals.  In other practices this critical decision is made without the specific knowledge of your plastic surgeon matching your body type to appropriate implants.  An example of this is the common practice of sizing with implant sizers stuffed into a bra.  Unfortunately, the process of sizing by stuffing an implant sizer into a bra is not customized to your breast shape and size.  These methods in other offices are a random process of gradually filling a bra until the patient appears happy.  In my opinion this random process leads to a random, inaccurate result and prevents the selection of an implant that matches the patient.  The 3D imaging sizing process we use is highly accurate and specific with scientific evidence demonstrating it is 95% reliable.  This specialized and detailed process stacks the deck in your favor as a patient.  We want to make every effort possible to allow you to see your expected result and essentially try it on before you buy it and commit.  Our process is designed to optimize accuracy, durability, and safety.  Very few practices offer this level of service for their breast augmentation patients.

All patients receive a detailed instruction and activity sheet with recommended steps to limit pain.  We advise that patients focus on 3 key points in this instruction sheet.  First, we include instructions for multi-modal pain control beginning the day before surgery.  Second, we promote taking anti-inflammatory medications and no narcotics on a scheduled basis to ensure comfort.  Third, specific activity and range of motion limitations are described.  This includes taking a shower at home on the day of surgery, and then doing your hair and getting out of the house for dinner.
