As we age, our skin begins to show the effects of sun exposure and environmental pollutants, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and other age-related issues. A solid skincare routine can help keep these signs at bay, but sometimes we need a little extra help. That’s where laser skin resurfacing comes in.
This post will cover several popular and effective Sciton® laser skin treatments—BBL, HALO®, MOXI®, ContourTRL™, MicroLaserPeel®, and NanoLaserPeel®—and discuss the skin concerns they can solve.
Forever Young BBL™ & BBL® HERO™
Forever Young BBL and BBL HERO are broadband light (BBL) treatments. While both treatments use BBL technology, they differ in terms of energy output and the type of skin concerns they address.
Forever Young BBL is a gentle light-based treatment that treats sun damage, rosacea, vascular redness, broken capillaries, and uneven skin texture while boosting the body’s natural collagen production.
BBL HERO can treat large areas of the face, neck, chest, back, arms, and legs. It addresses a variety of skin concerns, including sun damage, age spots, freckles, red and brown spots, and uneven skin tone. It’s also effective in treating acne and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Multiple treatments—typically 2 to 4 treatments scheduled about 4 weeks apart—may be needed for optimal results. Downtime is minimal.
HALO
HALO is a versatile hybrid fractional laser treatment that combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to achieve significant skin rejuvenation. HALO allows customized treatment options based on individual skin issues, making it popular for various skin types and concerns.
HALO is suitable for patients of all ages and skin types and can target skin concerns on the face, neck, chest, and hands. By combining the more intense ablative wavelength—which removes the outer layers of skin—with the non-ablative wavelength, HALO can address multiple skin concerns simultaneously. HALO is particularly effective in treating sun damage, age spots, scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. It can also improve skin texture and tone, reducing the appearance of pores and improving overall skin firmness.
The downtime associated with HALO laser resurfacing varies depending on the intensity of the treatment. Mild treatments may only require a day or two of recovery, while more intense treatments may require up to a week. Your provider will tell you what to expect from your recovery based on your specific treatment. Patients can expect some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort after the procedure, but these symptoms typically resolve within a few days.
MOXI
MOXI is designed to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin on the face, neck, and chest. MOXI treatments take only about 10 minutes and require minimal downtime.
MOXI can be used on all skin types to treat light sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles, and uneven skin tone and texture. Additionally, it’s an effective way to maintain the results of other laser skin treatments.
Contour TRL
Men and women of all ages experiencing scars, acne marks, uneven or rough skin texture, or advanced skin aging can benefit from Contour TRL treatments.
Often used in our practice for deep skin resurfacing, Contour TRL is a laser treatment capable of addressing a range of skin conditions. It can be used on both face and body, customized to suit your specific concerns, desired results, and expected downtime.
Adjusting the laser treatment’s intensity can remove a layer of skin at the depth that achieves your desired outcome. Contour TRL stimulates new collagen growth, improves skin thickness and resilience, and promotes the development of fresh, healthy skin cells. The result is a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
Recovery times will vary depending on the depth of the treatment. Your provider can advise you how much downtime you should expect based on the specifics of your procedure.
MicroLaserPeel
MicroLaserPeel is a less intense alternative to the Contour TRL resurfacing treatment and is suitable for the face, neck, chest, and hands.
This treatment gently removes the outer layers of the skin, unveiling fresh, healthier skin while stimulating collagen production during the healing process. MicroLaserPeel is an excellent choice for patients dealing with:
- Irregular skin texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Sun damage or discoloration
- Pigmented lesions
- Fine lines and wrinkles
NanoLaserPeel
NanoLaserPeel rejuvenates your appearance with minimal downtime by removing only the outermost layer of the skin. NanoLaserPeel offers a gentler approach than MicroLaserPeel and is excellent for use as a maintenance procedure.
This treatment is particularly suited for patients dealing with minor skin issues, such as:
- Minor blemishes
- Skin discoloration
- Dull complexion
- Fine lines
Expect to see results in just 2 to 3 days after your NanoLaserPeel session.
If you’re considering laser skin resurfacing, work with a qualified skincare professional to determine the best treatment plan for your unique needs and to discuss what to expect from your recovery. By understanding the benefits and limitations of each treatment, you can make an informed decision about which option is right for you.
